Group Piano Lessons Group Piano Group lessons are 45 min long for Pre-6th grade and 60 min for 7th-12th. Students are grouped by ability and age. The studio lab has 7 digital pianos- 1 for the teacher and 6 for students. A group can consist of 2 to 6 students. We use music written by Mrs. Rausch, the Mayron Cole Group Piano Method, and lots of supplemental. The Mayron Cole Group Piano Method is a unique, innovative and enjoyable way for students of all ages to learn to read and play piano music. The author, Mayron Cole, with over 45 years of teaching experience developed and piloted this program in her own Houston studio. The longer I teach this method the more I find how well thought out this reading curriculum is.Top 10 reasons I choose to use this Piano Reading Method: 1. 1 loose-leaf or spiral book that includes pieces, theory, sight reading, rhythm drills, and technic. I have students put in 3 ring binder with all my handouts. All in one convenient place. 2. Larger Print to help students’ eyes track easier. I find that students stay focused much longer. 3. Learn 1 new concept at a time with constant repetition of old. Very Suzuki to me. 4. Theory worksheets are interwoven and used as a prep for new songs and reinforcement after new songs so students understand how it directly applies. 5. Matching theory floor games to reinforce concepts. 6. CD accompaniments at three speeds help students to learn to work out of their comfort zone while learning to keep the beat. 7. I find it works well as a reading program for my private Suzuki students. 8. This method does not have you at the piano the whole lesson. We are at the white board, or doing floor work, or tapping rhythm sticks. 9. I find I can easily apply much of my Suzuki training to this method so I really enjoy teaching the group lessons. 10. I find that my group piano students consistently accomplish their assignments! Because they are able to play their entire assignment before they go home they think it is “easy” so home practice is developing a mastery of the skill. They enjoy playing together and motivate each other.
